Description

'Big Ned' is the engineering masterpiece of Mark Walker, a self taught engineering boffin who's been building motorbikes all of his life. With little formal education Mark's gift with metal and creation is only surpassed by his tenacity and passion. "I didn't know what a lathe was when I first saw one at 15, but I said to my mother that I HAD to have one."

A lifetime of designing and building many weird and wonderful machines sees Mark now finishing his latest creation. The character of 'Big Ned' was inspired by a visit by Mark and his companion Lynne to an art exhibition by Sidney Nolan in Canberra featuring portrayals of Ned Kelly. Now, thousands of hours later, Ned is a 'running, roaring reality.' Built entirely by hand (and lathe!) this 3,000 cc, rotary-valve head, nitro fuel injected V-twin is not only aesthetically engrossing but has engineering innovation that must be seen to be believed.

The magnificent motorbike will be unveiled by the Mayor of Bellingen, Mark Troy, at 'The World's Smallest Motorcycle Museum', at Juan's Café del Fuego in Dorrigo, on 4th July 2009 at 12 noon. A 'change-over' tradition for three years now, motor bike riders and enthusiasts gather from all over the State, every three months to inspect and celebrate another special and rare machine, be they antique, international or the very latest in mechanical engineering.

"There's great lumps of metal, chains and hoses hanging out either side of this enormous engine - it's a feast to the eyes and only the second appearance in public thus far", smiles Juan, owner of Café del Fuego," Hearing about how each component was created is a story in itself. "

Mark Walker, the bike's creator will be at the unveiling on the day to answer any questions from the public. Juan will feed the masses complimentary Aussie tucker for lunch and a 3-course Patagonian feast will be served that evening in the Café del Fuego to celebrate the new arrival.

Everyone is invited to this occasion:all riders, travel enthusiasts, mechanical fans, motorbike restorers, their families, friends and kids. So come, join the party - ring your friends and plan your getaway now!

For any accommodation requirements and essential dinner bookings please phone Juan on 02 6657 2202.
